DomeSketch vs Domerama 3V calculator
A long-running set of per-frequency calculators (1V–6V) that take any one measure — radius, diameter, height, floor area, a strut length — and fill in the rest, with material weights, cover area, seating and rough costs.
Also listed in the builders directory (unpaid, unranked). That listing and this page are separate: the directory never mentions this ranking, and this page judges the tool alone.
Where Domerama 3V calculator leads
- Enter any value — a strut length you already have, a floor area, a height — and every other value is solved; DomeSketch only takes a diameter.
- Material weights for EMT, steel, aluminum and wood struts, plywood and slab concrete quantities, and seating estimates, none of which DomeSketch computes.
- Bolted-strut allowance explained on the page (tip-to-hole × 2 × strut count) and separate chord charts and cover-pattern tools alongside.
Where DomeSketch does something it doesn't
- No 3D model, no openings, no site features; the result is a table.
- Costs use the site's own fixed unit prices and a single cover figure; there is no way to change them.
- Floor area and height follow a flattened-base convention that differs from the sphere cut, and the page does not say by how much.
Pick Domerama 3V calculator if
- You already have a strut length and want the dome that fits it.
- You want strut weights and slab concrete quantities in the same table.
Pick DomeSketch if
- You want to see the dome, cut a door and windows in it, and plan the pad and the build.
- You want to change the prices or the materials and get a link that carries the whole design.
The run — 20 ft · 3V · 5/8 sphere, 2026-09-20
Entered: Spherical radius 10 (feet) on the 3V 5/8 calculator, Calculate.
- A 3.486 × 30, B 4.036 × 55, C 4.124 × 80 — 165 struts, 656 ft of pipe
- Height 11.720 ft, floor area 278.6 sq ft, circumference 62.83 ft
- DomeSketch: A 3.486 × 30, B 4.035 × 55, C 4.124 × 80 — 165 struts, 656 ft; height 11.77 ft, floor 304 sq ft
Strut lengths and counts agree to the thousandth (B differs by rounding). Height and floor area differ because Domerama flattens the base ring to a plane and reports that; DomeSketch keeps the true sphere cut and reports the base flatness (±1.9 in on this dome) instead.

About our side of this page
DomeSketch is our product; this page is written by us. Its numbers for the run are computed from the geometry when the page is built and are the same as the reference table. What DomeSketch does not do:
- Class I icosahedral only, 1V–8V: no octahedral, no Class II or III, no Kruschke or Mexican subdivisions (Acidome, Simply Differently).
- No bevel, dihedral or mitre angles and no timber cut lengths net of a joint (Geo-Dome, Acidome).
- No reverse calculation from a strut length (Domerama, Desert Domes); no lath cut optimisation (Simply Differently).
- Feet and inches only in the interface; millimetres only in the STL export.
- Prices and mix yields are placeholders and the page says so; the materials estimate is rough.
- No hub cut deductions for any specific connector (Sonostar).
